Our Story

Thirty years after disbanding my business ‘Specially for You’, a chance conversation with clothing designer Alie Macintosh, founder of internationally renowned 'AYM', revealed that her grandmother had bought one of my designs and that this intricately smocked cotton nightdress had become a treasured family heirloom.

 As Alie had carried an interest in what I had achieved with my work, a plan was made to explore the possibility of working together on ideas roused from the premise and provenance of my work, combined with Alie’s expertise, experience and accomplishments. 

What followed, felt like reawakening a long lost cherished friendship after a sad parting thirty years previous and Julian Mary & Me was bought to life.

Things moved quickly from a concept to a commitment and the goal was to find the significance and essence of the smocked clothing I made, draw on historical data and move forward to a create a collection that worked for a more contemporary audience. 

And what a joy it has been!
